On April 28, 2023, at the age of 50, Kevin lost his courageous battle against cancer. He was born June 30, 1972, in Chicago. Beloved husband to Brenda (Piszczek) for over 20 years. Cherished father to his boys, Colin and Ethan. Loving son to Kathleen J. Irwin and the late Thomas P. McLean. Adored grandson of Jean Irwin and the late Richard R. Irwin. Brother to Kathleen (David) Yurkovich and uncle to Jack, Lily, and Quinn. Treasured son-in-law to Casimer Piszczek and the late Fern. Cousin and nephew to many.
Kevin was a graduate of Niles North High School 1990 and attended Southern Illinois University. He was a proud member of IBEW 134, IUOE 399, and a long-time employee of Northwestern University. Kevin loved the city of Chicago; U2, the Cure, and the Foo Fighters; and was a life-long Cubs fan. Kevin had the unique ability to find humor in the most awkward situations. He remembered every person he met. Around the house or at his job he always took pride in his work. Kevin was instrumental in many LED lighting projects at NorthwesternUniversity, such as adding color changing LED lights to Deering Library’s façade and the Crown Clock Tower. These lights are used for various holidays, awareness months, and celebrations. Kevin recently received an Illumination Award of Merit from the Illumination Engineering Society for his role in replacing the lights and controls on Millar Chapel.
Kevin’s wicked sense of humor and kindness will be greatly missed. Family and friends will gather at a later date to celebrate and honor Kevin. Memorials may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, www.ccalliance.org.
