Michael Honan Obituary

Michael Martin Honan, 88 passed away peacefully at his home in Mount Prospect on Thursday September, 2, 2021. He was born in Rhynagonaught, Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland to Patrick and Catherine (McGraw) Honan. He was one of six children. In 1950 he decided to emigrate, he first went to work in England then went to Toronto, Canada and ultimately to Chicago. To emigrate to the U.S. legally, he pooled his money with a few good men to individually get through customs. Mike met the love of his life Josephine at a dance in 1957 at McInery Hall on Madison Avenue in Chicago. They got married on August 13, 1960 at St. Mel's church in Chicago. Within the next nine years they had five children. Family was everything to Mike. He enjoyed time spent with his many in-laws. All friends and family from overseas knew that they were always welcomed. There was always a bed, a meal, drinks, and a lot of laughs would await them. In 1976 Mike and Jo built their dream house in Mount Prospect. Mike travelled to four continents and many other places throughout the world and he always came back with funny and unique stories to tell! Mike was an extremely hard worker and instilled this in his children and grandchildren. Mike worked for the laborers union, Local 4 and started multiple family construction businesses. Mike loved to involve his children and grandchildren in his business. If you stopped by a jobsite you would almost always see Mike working with a family member he had convinced to come out with him that day. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine and his oldest grandson, Michael, whom he missed profoundly. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Senán and Joseph and his sisters, Mary and Margaret. He is survived by his sister Kitty (James) Griffin. He is also survived by his three sons and two daughters and their spouses as well as sixteen grandchildren. Michael and Stefany Honan and their children Colin, Caitlyn (Luke) Wagenbach, and Conor; Eileen and Patrick Byrne and their children, Martin, Aisling, Patrick, Sarah, and Aidan; Tom and Mary Honan and their daughter Maggie; Brendan and Annette Honan and their children, Aidan, Molly, Jackie, and Annie and Karen and John Durkan and their children, Sean, Fiona, and Mairead.
