It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas David Tuegel, known to friends as "Tom", announces that after a long struggle with illness, he has passed away peacefully on October 19th at the age of 77 years. A long-time resident of Lake County, Tom was born on October 2, 1946 to Herbert and Agnes (Bornhorst) Tuegel. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Tom served the US Army 1st Battalion 69th Armor Division from 1966 to 1968 and was honorably discharged. He was a proud Local Union #1 Ironworker all his life and his work includes too many buildings, bridges and roads to name. A few of his most notable and favorite accomplishments include the John Hancock Center, the Sears Tower and Halas Hall in Lake Forest. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cathy (DiMaria) in 1997, and will always be remembered lovingly by his two daughters, Janet (Anthony) Cummins and Julie (John) Bratton. The third son out of four, he also leaves behind his brother James (Carol) Tuegel. Nothing made Tom happier than the love of his two daughters, a cold beer, and some freshly cut grass.
